A research fellow position in bioinformatics (1 year, with the possibility of further extensions) is available at CNR in collaboration with Cineca in the framework of the ELIXIR-Italy Joint Research Unit. Elixir-Italy is led by National Research Council (CNR) of Italy and brings together 13 partners including Italian universities and leading high-performance computing partners such as Cineca, CRS4, GARR and INFN. ELIXIR-Italy also has strong local connections with other italian nodes of ESFRI Biomedical Science and Environmental Science Infrastructures and is currently an “observer” member of ELIXIR.
Salary and place of work
Salary will be calculated according to CNR rules for research grants and may vary depending on the curriculum of the successful candidate. Place of work is in Rome.
In the context of ELIXIR-Italy’s role as “user community” within the H2020 INDIGO-Datacloud project (INDIGO from now on), ELIXIR-Italy needs a person able to follow and assist the development of an “use case” in collaboration with the other partners of the project. The “use case” is focused on bringing bioinformatic workflow managers to cloud environments in order to provide the possibility of an easy set-up of “on-demand” bioinformatics work platforms, ready to be used by life scientists and bioinformaticians lacking the necessary resources (either human or computational). In particular, we aim to develop a fully customizable Galaxy on-demand platform, deployable on any cloud infrastructure by means of the middleware developed by the INDIGO project. The successful candidate will interact with other INDIGO partners in an exciting and multidisciplinary community comprising bioinformatics, computer science, physics and other scientific fields. The successful candidate will drive the development of the “use case”, assuring its suitability for the needs of the community in terms of quality and functionality.
The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated, hard-working individual who enjoys working in team, and is passionate about cutting-edge technology applied to scientific research.
